About ModelMatch

Built by someone who's watched parts merchants lose sales.

ModelMatch is a Shopify compatibility app for every parts vertical — not just auto. It's built carefully, by one founder, for merchants who are tired of losing sales to shopper doubt.

ModelMatch didn't start as a software idea. It started as a pattern I kept watching play out in parts commerce — a shopper lands on a product page, reads the title, scans the description, and can't tell whether the part they're looking at actually fits the machine they own. So they leave. Not because the part was wrong. Because the page couldn't tell them it was right.

Parts merchants don't lose sales because their catalog is missing the item. They lose sales because the moment of doubt never gets resolved. A filter that fits forty different furnaces gets described as "a filter." A belt that services eight brands of riding mower gets listed by dimension alone. The compatibility data exists somewhere — in a supplier spreadsheet, a technician's head, a PDF on a manufacturer site — but it almost never lives on the product page where the shopper actually needs it.

The tools that do exist are built for one category. Auto fitment platforms assume every shopper is looking up a car by year, make, and model. They don't translate to HVAC. They don't translate to appliance parts. They don't translate to the dozens of other verticals where matching by model number is the whole game. Merchants selling in those verticals are left to build their own workarounds, bolt together spreadsheets and custom fields, or give up and accept the lost sales as a cost of doing business.

ModelMatch exists to fix that.

The app is built around a simple idea: if you sell parts that have to match a model, the product page should be able to say so. Shoppers type in what they own. They get a clear answer — fits, likely fits, doesn't fit, we're not sure. Merchants upload the compatibility data they already have, and it translates into fewer returns and higher conversion on the pages that matter most.

It's built for every parts vertical, not just auto. It's built to feel native to Shopify, because that's where the merchants we care about are already running their stores. And it's built to be the kind of tool a real parts merchant would actually want on their storefront — clean, fast, honest about what it knows and doesn't know, and quietly doing its job in the background of every sale.

What we believe

Three ideas that shape every decision.

01

Compatibility is the product page.

For parts merchants, the shopper's real question isn't "what does this cost" — it's "does this fit what I own." Every storefront decision should start from that question and work backwards.

02

Built for every parts vertical, not just auto.

HVAC, appliance, industrial, power equipment, electronics, agricultural, auto — the shape of the problem is the same. Shoppers need to match a part to a model. The tools should serve all of them, not just the one with the loudest legacy platform.

03

Merchant tools should feel native, not bolted on.

ModelMatch lives inside Shopify because that's where the work happens. It should feel like it belongs there — fast, quiet, respectful of the merchant's workflow, and honest about what it knows.

How we're building

Bootstrapped, deliberately, so the product stays honest.

ModelMatch isn't backed by venture capital. There are no investors pushing for a rushed launch, no board demanding growth at any cost, no pressure to bolt on features that look good in a pitch deck but don't help a single merchant sell more parts. The app is being built slowly, by one person, funded out of pocket — and that's on purpose.

Bootstrapping means every decision gets weighed against one question: does this make the product better for the merchant paying for it. It means the pricing is set at levels real parts merchants can actually afford, not at levels that only make sense to spreadsheets in San Francisco. It means support comes from the person who built the thing, not from a ticket queue. And it means the roadmap follows what merchants actually ask for, not what a growth team thinks will hit a quarterly target.

The tradeoff is pace. ModelMatch will never ship as fast as a well-funded competitor. But it will ship with care, and it will still be here in five years — owned by the same person, pointed at the same mission, serving the same merchants.

Who's building this

One founder. One mission.

I've spent years watching parts merchants lose sales to one quiet problem — shoppers who can't tell whether the part on the page fits the machine they own. ModelMatch is my answer to that. I'm building it carefully, on my own, for the merchants who have been waiting for a compatibility tool that wasn't built around cars.
