Electronics parts

Compatibility down to the hardware revision.

A Shopify fit check for replacement electronics — laptops, phones, tablets, consoles, networking gear. Screens, batteries, chargers, keyboards, logic boards. One generation apart is one wrong part. ModelMatch knows the difference.

Diagnostic log

The gap between "fits this model" and "fits this unit."

Electronics compatibility isn't binary. A laptop battery that works in a Dell Latitude 7420 with one motherboard revision won't work in the same model with a different one. A charger that looks identical to a 90W unit is actually 65W and will throttle the machine. Generic product pages can't tell the difference. Shoppers who order without a fit check end up with the wrong part and a support ticket.

Revision-blind product pages

A product page labeled "Dell Latitude 7420 battery" sells one battery across every motherboard revision the model has shipped. In reality, the A00 revision uses a different power circuit than the A02 and A03. Shoppers who order based on the model number alone end up with a battery their laptop can't charge — and neither the shopper nor the storefront knows why until the return shows up.

Chargers and PSUs that look identical

A 45W USB-C charger and a 65W USB-C charger have the same connector, the same physical footprint, and nearly identical product photography. Only the wattage spec tells them apart, and most shoppers don't check — or can't tell which one their machine needs. The wrong wattage doesn't always destroy the device, but it reliably throttles performance and generates the support ticket that eats your margin.

Regional variants the page doesn't disclose

The same laptop model can ship with a US keyboard layout, a UK layout, a German layout, and a Japanese layout — same part number family, different actual keys. The same phone model can ship with a US cellular radio, an EU radio, and an APAC radio — same model, different radios. Product pages that list one blanket SKU for a globally-sold device sell returns to every region that isn't the default.

Execution pipeline

Three stages from upload to verified fit.

ModelMatch installs into the Shopify admin, ingests the compatibility data you already own, and deploys the shopper-facing surfaces that turn revision-level data into verified purchases. Pipeline is documented, idempotent, and reversible from the admin panel.

> stage ingest --data=compatibility ingest

Ingest compatibility data

Import part-to-device records via CSV, direct Shopify product import, or manual entry. ModelMatch handles the many-to-many structure electronics catalogs actually have — one replacement part mapped to multiple device models, hardware revisions, and region variants without forcing you to duplicate SKUs.

> stage deploy --surfaces=fit_check,finder,collection deploy

Deploy shopper-facing surfaces

The fit check activates on every product page that has compatibility data. The standalone finder (Growth and Professional) gives device-first browsing for multi-part repair jobs. The catalog fit check narrows category pages by device model. Each surface is independently toggleable from the admin — enable what fits your catalog, leave the rest off.

03
> stage monitor --log=search_events monitor

Monitor, log, expand coverage

Every fit check query is logged. Match events flow through to checkout as verified buyer intent. No-match events surface as a prioritized list of catalog gaps — so coverage expansion goes where shoppers actually searched, not where the merchant happened to think of. Compound improvement, driven by real data.

Specifications

Three modules. Documented, specified, shippable.

Every ModelMatch install ships three shopper-facing modules. Each is specified, individually configurable from the admin, and built to sit inside your existing Shopify theme without modification. No reflow, no custom code, no workflow overhauls required.

Product-page fit check

Activates on every product page that has compatibility data. Accepts device model, hardware revision, region variant, or part number. Returns a verified match status with the cross-reference data visible to the shopper — so IT buyers and repair techs can audit the match, not just trust it.

Device-first finder

Standalone finder page for device-first browsing. An IT buyer, refurbisher, or repair tech enters a device model once and browses every compatible part across the catalog. Built for multi-part repairs, bulk device refurbishment workflows, and procurement orders covering full fleet device populations.

Collection compatibility filter

Drop-in theme app block for collection pages. Narrows a 500-SKU battery category, charger category, or screen category down to the parts that fit the shopper's specific device — without leaving the collection page. For high-density category pages where shoppers would otherwise leave to search elsewhere.

Electronics merchant questions

Answers for catalogs where returns hurt the most.

Which electronics categories does ModelMatch work for?
Laptops, desktops, tablets, phones, monitors, gaming consoles, networking equipment, and accessories. Any category where replacement parts map to specific device models — screens, batteries, chargers, keyboards, cables, motherboards, storage, speakers, webcams.
Can ModelMatch handle hardware revisions and regional variants?
Yes. Map parts to the specific revision (Rev A vs Rev B) or region variant (US vs EU) that applies. Shoppers enter their exact model and get the precise compatibility answer — not a generic match that might be wrong.
What if a part fits 20 different laptop models across 3 generations?
Map it to all 20. One part, many compatibility records — no duplication of the product itself. Shoppers searching any of the 20 get a match, and you maintain one SKU with one inventory count.
My compatibility data is sitting in product descriptions right now. Can ModelMatch help?
Yes. AI-assisted mapping is included on every plan — Starter at 100/month, Growth at 500/month, Professional at 2000/month. The AI reads your existing product descriptions and suggests compatibility records. You review the suggestions before anything saves — no automated changes to your catalog.
Does this affect page speed or Lighthouse scores?
No. The fit check loads after main product content renders, so Core Web Vitals are unaffected. Lookups typically return in under 200ms.
What does this cost?
ModelMatch starts at $19/month on the Starter plan, with Growth at $39/month and Professional at $79/month. Electronics catalogs with deep SKU counts and many compatibility combinations usually fit Growth or Professional.
